The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top biopic about the fallen religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals set about profiting from the nation's religious faith. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain manages to show Tammy Faye in a likable light. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
